MYSTERY AND POETRY SEASONS
My Autumn Knight
Leaves of copper, rust and gold,
Spiraling treasures on fall’s gentle breeze,
My favorite season to behold,
As I stroll beneath beautiful hardwood trees.
Lonely, lost in thought, of things hoped for, I muse.
Then I look up from my silent thoughts, suddenly stilled.
Gallantly stands a Knight, eyes the palest of blues,
Soft burnished tresses and beard of copper, before me a dream fulfilled.
In full armor he stands and watches me,
A soft, longing gaze on his handsome face,
My own soul wakes with a need as great as his must be.
And at once, I find myself wrapped in his warm embrace.
My heart that has lain unmoved for much too long,
Now awakens in response toward his incredible brightness.
He whispers softly to me, sweet words like a long lost song,
The dark loneliness falls away, leaving me filled with blessed lightness.
The leaves float down around us, the sun like polished amber,
Rays of soft light shine upon us, a stage that seems so surreal,
Then his lips brush mine, trembling, soft, warm and tender,
Bringing forth hidden emotions; so wonderful, alive, and real.
Kisses sweet and searching, caresses wild yet gentled.
I cling to his strength as my own melts away,
This flame flares bright, so easily kindled,
The language of our dance leaves no need for words to say.
Yet his honor demands he yield, setting me, from him, apart,
With regretful tears yet unshed, I am bound by grace to agree
One last kiss he grants, for remembrance, for my yearning heart.
The brilliant sunset gently fades; it grows difficult to see.
Alas, he is gone, vanished, like the afternoon breeze,
My knight of honor dressed in the soft shades of fall.
I am lonely again, walking back among the great shedding trees,
Yet my heart lives once more, a reason to smile and walk tall.
